Preparing for Baby C 2.0 – Hospital Bags

Well since I may only have 7 weeks until Baby C 2.0 decides to join us I have started to get organized, so that I am ready when he or she shows up.

We are planning a home water birth, but just in case I am packing for the hospital because he or she may decide to come early or it may be safer at the time to deliver at the hospital. Here is what I will be packing in the next few weeks:

Labour and Delivery:

  • Throat lozenges/suckers/hard candy

  • Pillow from home with not-so-great pillowcase

  • Comfort food/snacks/drinks for you and your husband/support person

  • Camera/video camera

  • Pen and paper

  • iPod and music for relaxation (Hypnobirthing CD)

  • Kobo

  • Blanket or throw

  • Elastic band for hair

  • Traveling neck pillow

  • Lotion and Chapstick

  • Sleeping mask

  • Roll of toilet paper.

  • Warm, comfortable socks that can be thrown out without hesitation

  • Swim suit tank top

Recovery:

  • Nursing pillow

  • HealthPod

  • Going home outfit

  • Cell phone

  • Toiletries: tooth paste, tooth brush, mouth guard, mouth wash, deodorant, soap, shampoo/conditioner, loofa and brush

  • Lanolin nipple cream

  • Cotton breast pads/nursing pads

  • Slippers & Crocs

  • Large t-shirts/yoga pants/pjs/gown/robe

  • Towel and washcloth

  • Nursing bra/Nursing tank tops: 2 to 3

  • Change of clothes/toiletries for your husband/support person

  • Belly bandit

  • Post partum pads/mama cloth

Baby:

  • Receiving blankets: 2 to 3

  • Blanket

  • Hat: 2 to 3

  • Cloth diapers X 15, cotton wipes lots, fleece inserts, disposable eco friendly wipes

  • Car seat

  • Going home outfits: 1 in newborn size and 1 in 0-3 months

  • Additional baby outfits: 2 to 3 onesies, 2 to 3 sleepers

  • Baby mittens: 2 to 3

  • Socks: 2 to 3

  • Swaddle blanket

  • Baby K'tan

  • Burp cloths: 2 to 3

  • Baby doll for Catherine
